Enjoy Halloween?? Well Habana Works does too. Hi, my name is Lillian Vargas and I attend The Green School for Environmental Careers. I am a part of the teen program Break It Down as an intern with a few other fellow students. For the Halloween of 2008 we created The Basement of Blood. The Basement of Blood was created out of things that were used already. This project was done for the community to come and see, and we had a great success. All ages that attended were both frightened but at the end there were laughs. The Basement of Blood was a great experience that I hope you didn’t miss. Habana Works always have something planned for the community. So while we Break It Down you stay around because we’re coming with something better.

Shovels and dirt and trees, oh my!!!! On November 5, 2008, us interns here at Habana Works were working on our neighborhood by planting daffodils around old, rundown trees. By doing this, we are making this community look and feel comfortable, so that when people walk near, they feel welcomed. This project was interesting and something new for all of us. Especially for us who have never planted before, like me.

Do you celebrate winter holidays? Well, my name is Marilu Cepeda and here at the Habana Works, us interns are recycling used items into fun gifts for your families and friends. We are using bottle caps and marbles and making them into holiday decorations. Other recycled items that we are using are yarn, glitter, and wood. When we’re done you can find our cool products on sale! You can come find out what we made and get ideas of your own, so think green, recycle, and stop by!

EDITOR'S NOTE: We'll let you know when and where our holiday crafts will be available, but don't forget the 2009 Habana Girls Calendar, another great way to support Habana Works, is on sale now!
